Places to visit in the immediate vicinity of our gîte
Our Vendée Bulle d’Air gîte is located in the heart of many historical and natural remains. You will find several places to visit and discover in the immediate vicinity of our gîte in Avrillé, in Vendée.
The old well and the Avrillé washhouse
The old well was used by the inhabitants, but also by the Roman legion as well as by the post office of the Auberge Royale to water their horses. While the washhouse, located on the road towards Longeville-sur-mer, runs along the banks of a stream. In the past, this was the place where the majority of women in the town gathered to wash their clothes.
The megaliths
Avrillé, the town where Vendée Bulle d’Air is located, has a rich historical heritage. Indeed, the remains of many megaliths from the Neolithic era are still visible today. One of them, one of the highest in Vendée, or even in France, named “king of menhirs”, reaches 8.70 m in height and weighs around 80 tonnes, and is located on the former Camps de Caesar. To date, you have the opportunity to contemplate it in the park of the town hall of the town of Avrillé. Of course, this park is accessible to the public.
The Saint-Gré Fountain
Ideal for lovers of myths and legends, the Saint-Gré Fountain is also called the Fairy Fountain or the White Lady Fountain. Arranged at the beginning of the Bronze Age, this fountain was, at the beginning of the Christian era, a baptistery. In addition, some pilgrims came to collect so-called miraculous water. The Saint-Gré Fountain is accessible all year round and is located at 421 Chemin de la Grande Maisonnette, 85 440 Avrillé.
The Castle of Adventurers
5 minutes from our site, come discover and participate as a family or as a couple in an unforgettable adventure. Indeed, formerly called the Château de la Guignardière, the Château des Aventuriers is a leisure park intended for both children and adults. Spread over 86 hectares, this adventure park offers puzzle games on different themes, an escape game within the estate as well as fun activities. The beaches of the Vendée coast
Our Vendée Bulle d’Air cottage is located not far from the magnificent beaches of the Vendée coast. You can find there:
- About 10 km away: Boisvinet beach, Morpoigne beach, Ragounite beach, Mine beach and Conches beach.
- Approximately 15 km away: Veillon beach, Terrière beach, La Tranche and Génerelles beach, Clemenceau beach, etc.
- About 25 km away is the Grande Plage des Sables d’Olonne.
The Madness of Finfarin
Curious or amateur of beekeeping, La Folie de Finfarine is a theme park of 10 wooded hectares. This one proposes to make you discover, from the age of 3 years, and between 2:30 and 4:00 of visit, the life of the bees and their environment. You can also take gourmet souvenirs with you thanks to their shop. In addition, La Folie de Finfarine offers activities for children and adults alike. Prehisto’site of CAIRN
Located 3.8 km from Avrillé, in Saint-Hilaire-la-Forêt, the Préhisto’site du CAIRN is a park on the theme of prehistory. It is a fun and educational museum on the Neolithic era to visit with the family. You have the opportunity to explore the park, visit the museum and take part in the workshops that the Préhisto’site du CAIRN offers. Talmont Castle
With its 1,000 years of history, the Château de Talmont, located in Talmont-Saint-Hilaire, in the Vendée, is an old seaside fortress. Dominating the Talmond coast, the remains of the castle date from 1,200. This building of stone, the first remains of which were built in 1020, is one of the oldest stone castles in France. Penotte Island
Accessible to all, the Île de Penotte district will delight your eyes. This is made up of pedestrian streets whose walls are covered with amusing and picturesque frescoes made of seashells.
The Blockhouse Hospital Museum
Located in the heart of Les Sables d’Olonne, the German Blockhouse Hospital Museum is a historic site dating from the Second World War.
